Halloween chocolate covered strawberries

These kid friendly Halloween chocolate covered strawberries are an easy to make Halloween-themed treat that are a fun, spooky treat!

Equipment

  • microwave safe bowls
  • double boiler saucepan (if using instead of microwave)
  • toothpicks
  • piping bags
  • parchment or wax paper

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Strawberries washed and dried
  • ½ cup Milk chocolate
  • ½ cup Semisweet chocolate I don't recommend using chocolate chips as they don't melt so well.
  • 1 cup Candy melts use various colors, like orange and green
  • Halloween sprinkles confetti and small candies for decorating

Instructions

  • Melt the chocolates and candy melts in their own bowls over a double boiler or in a microwave in 30 secodn intervals, stirring after each time, until melted and smooth.
  • To prepare the strawberries, first, make sure they are totally dry and at room temperature. Use a toothpick to pull back the leaves and stem.
  • Then take each strawberry by its leaves and dip evenly in the chocolate or candy melt color of your choice and turn to coat. Pull up to allow excess to drip off for a few seconds, then place onto parchment or wax paper to set. For strawberries you want to decorate with if googly eyes, confetti or sprinkles, be sure to add those before the chocolate sets fully.
  • When the initial coating is set, decorate with additional colors of candy melts in piping bags as you like to make jack-o-lanterns or skulls or ghosts...whatever you fancy! Keep on parchment paper until fully set up.

These will keep in fridge for no longer than two days in an airtight container lined with paper towels. Bring to room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.
